A strange tale of Leipzig

After leaving Dresden, we travelled to Leipzig which, we discovered, was incredibly beautiful, amazingly cheap and filled with exciting characters.

For example, while we were walking the central area of the town, we met a man selling what he called 'coconut kisses' for 'a donation.' Naturally, when given such an opportunity, we could not help but donate.  The content of these baked goods remains a subject of great debate, but there can be no doubt that the night which ensued was one of the strangest we have so far experienced.

We discovered, initially, that a bust of Brahms had been put up behind our hostel.  Leipzig seems to have a habit of claiming any musician who ever lived, studied, performed in or passed through the city.

Then things got properly weird.  After cruising down the main street and having a couple of beers and some nachos (all totally worth while) we came back to the shopping district where we discovered choirs, dancing girls, angels and demons were all on display.  We were so disturbed by their appearance, we took photos to confirm that the hallucinations were at least taking physical form.

The trickiest part of the evening then came from putting the Liar face to face with the Devil, who clearly didn't know what to do with him.  After capering and grinning for a moment or two, Beelzebub let this servant of his cause go about his business in peace.

Convinced that, for all its beauty, Leipzig was the strangest town we had visited thus far, we went to bed trying to come to terms with the things we had seen.  We resolved to explore the city to its fullest in the morning.
